SV Kampong Cricket went from featuring in the Eliminator to overcoming Veni Vedi Vici, undefeated in nine successive matches until the Final, by nine wickets in the Final.

Previously unbeaten VVV posted 101/7 batting first in the Final, but KAM proved more than up to the task in reply. Powered by an unbeaten 66 off just 23 balls from Belgium international Shaheryar Butt, KAM cruised to the target with nine wickets and 19 balls to spare. Skipper Usman Malik, the highest run-scorer in the season, remained unbeaten on 22 at the other end.

Earlier on Finals day, KAM overcame Qui Vive by 51 runs in the Eliminator and then went on to beat Sparta Cricket 1888 in the second qualifier by 21 runs. VVV went straight to the Final after beating SPC in the first qualifier.

Hosts Sparta Cricket 1888 (SPC) enjoyed a phenomenal run at European Cricket Series Capelle 2020 topping the league stages with a 5-1 record. SPC went on to win the tournament on home soil beating Excelsior 20 in the Final.

SV Kampong Cricket (KAM) had a mixed tournament last term winning just two of their six league games, but managed to bag Bronze medal honours beating fourth placed Voorburg Cricket Club. With the benefit of that precious ECS experience, KAM will be hoping for an improved showing this time around.

Formed in 2013, Liege boast a strong mix of young and experienced players in their ranks who have played at the international level and will be keen to show their talent to a global audience.  Liege will travel from across the border in Belgium to take part in FanCode ECS Netherlands Capelle, having featured in ECS Belgium last season. LIE ended with a 1-1 record in the group stages while their Shield Final was abandoned. On Dutch soil, LIE will be keen to go deep in the tournament this time around.

Formed in 1902, Veni Vedi Vici (VVV) is a multicultural club with six senior teams and four youth teams. VVV is one of the fastest growing clubs in the Netherlands with a good professional set up and overseas professional playing coaches every season. On debut, VVV will be looking to make a serious impression on the grand stage of European Cricket.

Mainly comprising members from India, Qui Vive (QUV) remains somewhat of an unknown quantity. QUV will look to spring a surprise or two against more fancied opposition on their ECS debut.

Het is Sparta Cricket niet gelukt om zich te kwalificeren voor de finaledag T20 2021. De verliezend finalist van vorig jaar werd in de kwartfinale op een ruime nederlaag getrakteerd door VOC. De Rotterdammers waren in eigenhuis met maar liefst 10 wickets te sterk voor de Capellenaren die eerst aan bat slechts 97 all-out scoorden. Het ervaren duo Rutgers-O’Dowd maakte het samen af in 8,2 overs.

Sparta won de toss en ging batten op het grasswicket van VOC. Helaas zoals vaker dit seizoen is gebeurt werden regelmatig wickets verloren en werd er niet samen gebat. Veel makkelijke uitjes door ongeconcentreerd batten belette de ploeg een competitief totaal te scoren in de eerste inning. Op 97 runs was het gedaan voor de bezoekers waar Ali Raza met 23 runs top scoorde. Man van de wedstrijd International O’Dowd was met 4 wickets de beste bowler bij de thuisploeg.

Het antwoord van VOC was zeer overtuigend want op minder dan de helft van de tweede inning stond er al 100 voor 0 wickets op het bord. Rutgers eindigde op 43 runs not out en O’Dowd op 40 runs not out beide gaven geen kans weg. Geen van de Sparta bowlers wist dus een wicket te nemen opvallend was wel de goede over van Salman Yaqub die slechts 5 runs moest toestaan waar de andere voor minimaal 11 runs weggingen.

Het is Sparta Cricket voor het tweede jaar op rij gelukt de kwartfinale van de Topklasse T20 te bereiken. Na overwinningen op VVV en Qui Vive volgde een nederlaag tegen HBS waardoor het duel van afgelopen zaterdag uit bij HCC per saldo een beslissingswedstrijd was. Inzet de tweede plaats in Poule B en kwalificatie voor de kwartfinale.

Sparta won de toss en koos fielden. Aanvoerder Bukhari zette zelf direct de toon met de bal en eindigde op 3 wickets voor 19 runs na 4 overs inclusief de wickets van de gevaarlijke top 3 van HCC. Offspinner Faisal Iqbal met zijn slimme wisselingen in snelheid van de bal was weer op zijn best met 3 wickets voor 14 runs in vier overs. HCC eindigde op slechts 104 runs na 20 overs.

Sparta kwam niet verder dan exact dat totaal op de laatste bal van de wedstrijd. Ondanks de bekeken en goede beurten van Bukhari 39 runs en Singh 27 runs lukte het de rest van de battingorder niet om hem over de streep te trekken. HCC’s ervaren bowlers bleven in de wedstrijd door constant wickets te nemen en verdedigde hun lage totaal tot een tie.

Sparta 2 heeft het laatste thuisduel in de 2de klasse A gewonnen met 30 runs verschil van VRA 3.
Sparta ging na een gewonnen toss eerst batten. Er werd erg goed gebowld door de bowlers van VRA waardoor Sparta na 10 overs maar 17 runs had met 2 wickets down. Daarna vocht Sparta zich terug in de wedstrijd en had in 40 overs 193 runs gemaakt. Aqib Saleem 57 runs, Karan Pawa 58 runs en K.S. Bhatti 37 runs waren de top scorers vanuit Sparta.

Na sterk eindigen met het bat begon Sparta ook sterk met bowling. In de eerste over werden er al 2 wickets gepakt door goede bowling van Salman Yaqub. Hierdoor kon Sparta goed de druk houden op de batsman van VRA. De run-rate ging steeds hoger en uiteindelijk was VRA 163 all out. Salman Yaqub 10-36-5 wickets en Karan Pawa 8-38-2 wickets waren de bowlers op dreef.

Door deze winst heeft Sparta 2 nog steeds kans om kampioen te worden. 29 aug heeft Sparta 2 een beslissende uitwedstrijd tegen HTCECA1.

Sparta Cricket heeft het laatste thuisduel in de Topklasse 2021 verloren met 18 runs verschil van ACC. De Amsterdammers werden eerst aan bat gestuurd en uitgebowled voor 154 runs. De Spartanen kwamen helaas niet verder dan 130 all-out, 19 runs achter het door DLS-berekening bijgestelde totaal van 148 runs.

Sparta ging na een gewonnen toss eerst fielden en deed dit niet onverdienstelijk want er werd goed gebowld en redelijk gefield. De fris 18-jaar geworden Prithvi Balwantsingh bowlde met de nieuwe bal in 1 keer zijn 10 overs uit en eindigde op 2 wickets voor slechts 29 runs. De van vakantie teruggekeerde Max Hoornweg was ook prima op dreef en nam net als Manin en Sawan twee wickets. ACC 154 all-out, Zaidi 56 runs, was de uitkomst van de eerste inning op een regenachtig Sportpark Bermweg.

De Spartanen begonnen bekeken en leken uit een ander vaatje te tappen aan bat dan de afgelopen weken. Dat was ook wel nodig na de lage totalen. Op 29 verloor Sparta echter wicket nummer 2 en wel het belangrijke van Tarr. Een aantal ballen later braken de wolken en een lange regenonderbreking volgde. Ons veld in Capelle Schollevaar kan veel hebben en er kon redelijk snel na het stoppen met regenen weer worden opgestart. De DLS berekende nog 35 overs te spelen om een target van 149 te scoren op de stand van 38 voor 2 wickets. Wat volgde was helaas een bekend tafereel in de Spartaanse batting order dit seizoen. Van 38 voor 2 stond het binnen 3 overs 41 voor 6 wickets… De na 2,5 maand in de ploeg teruggekeerde Martijn Snoep op 8 ging met de nog instaande Raza de strijd aan. Met een samenwerking van 56 runs brachten zij Sparta weer terug in de wedstrijd naar 97 toen Raza voor 45 werd gestumpt. Het schip strandde uiteindelijk op 130 all-out. Een onnodige nederlaag ingeluid door ongeconcentreerd en roekeloos batten, zonde!

Door deze nederlaag kan Sparta 1 niet meer over ACC heen op de ranglijst en eindigt definitief als 9de omdat ook nummer 10 Dosti verloor. Ondanks dat er geen degradatie volgt na dit seizoen in de Topklasse wel op eigenkracht boven de streep geeindigd. Toch overheerst de teleurstelling dat er geen rol is gespeeld in de strijd om de play-offs; werk aan winkel voor volgend seizoen dus! In de Twenty20 competitie doen de mannen het een stuk beter. Zaterdag a.s. word gespeeld op en tegen HCC voor een plek in de volgende ronde. Het duel start om 16:30 uur op de Diepput in Den Haag.

Sparta Cricket heeft zaterdag ook de tweede wedstrijd in Poule B van de Topklasse T20 gewonnen. In de uitwedstrijd bij de Amsterdamse Eersteklasser Qui Vive werd na een gewonnen toss eerst gebat. Na een solide start van Tarr en Iqbal van 48 runs kwam Mudassar Bukhari in op 3. De voormalig International en clubcaptain scoorde een spectaculaire century waarmee hij zijn ploeg naar het hoogste totaal van Sparta ooit in de T20 competitie leidde; 225 voor 3 na twintig overs. Sportpark De Eendracht, overigens aan de Bok de Korverweg, was te klein voor Bukhari die 100 passeerde na slechts 47 ballen te hebben gespeeld. Toen hij drie ballen later op 108 werd gevangen had hij 18 maal de boundary gevonden waarvan 8 maal 4 en maar liefst 10 maal 6! Naast de goede opening speelde Manin Singh een zeer sterke bijrol hij eindigde op 43 runs not out met 3 maal 4 en 3 maal 6. Bij de thuisploeg kregen 8 bowlers de kans waarvan de meest zuinige in 2 overs 19 runs incasseerde.

Voor wie halverwege dacht dat het duel gespeeld was had het mis want de Amsterdammers kwamen zwaaiend met hun bats de kleedkamer uit. Met die zwaaiende bats werden ook nog eens veel ballen het veld uit geslagen door met name Bachchav met 45 runs, Bhatala met 50 runs en Kakarlapudi met 35 runs. Toen Qui Vive na 13 overs op 147 runs totaal stond met 7 wickets in handen bekroop een ”het zal toch niet” gevoel menig Spartaan. Waar de meeste Capelse bowlers voor ruim boven de 10 runs per over incasseerde waren het opnieuw Manin Singh en Bukhari die uitblonken dit maal met de bal in de hand. Legspinner Singh was met 3 wickets voor slechts 24 runs na 4 overs de uitblinker maar ook Bukhari met 4 overs voor slechts 20 runs, waarvan ook nog 1 maiden, was steengoed. Qui Vive eindigde op 186 voor 9 uit na hun 20 overs en Sparta won dus met 39 runs. Naast zijn century en bowling spell hield Bukhi ook nog even 4 vangen vast… dus onbetwist man van de wedstrijd!

Sparta Cricket is het Topklasse Twenty20 toernooi goed begonnen met een 18 runs overwinning op VVV. Eerst aan bat scoorde de Spartanen 135 runs voor het verlies van 8 wickets. Uitblinkers waren Mudassar Bukhari met 48 runs en Garnett Tarr met 74 runs. Hun samenwerking voor het derde wicket was maar liefst 115 runs waard! VVV’s Indiaase prof Gangta was met 4 wickets veruit de beste bowler.

Het antwoord van de Amsterdamse Hoofdklasser strandde op 117 runs voor het verlies van 9 wickets na hun 20 overs. Vrijwel alle Capelse bowlers wisten de score te drukken gesteund door goed veldwerk. Spinner Manin Singh was met 3 wickets de meest slagvaardige bowler bij de thuisploeg waar ook Max Hoornweg en Mudassar Bukhari 2 wickets wisten te nemen.
